Why CS and SE Feel So Different
I remembered, I once complained to my lecturer, like why in our major, “Software Engineering”, we don’t learn about how the code works, how to build an efficient algorithm.
Then she said, “You should go to Computer Science then.”
Today, I had a conversation with my CS friend. He shared what he learned in his major. Now I realize how really different the Computer Science major and the Software Engineering major are.
Computer Science majors learn more about low-level code, the very fundamentals of how computers work, algorithms, binary, and even digital forensics. It’s something that I always feel is missing in my current major.
Software Engineering majors learn more about the process of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), from requirement gathering, development, testing, until release. We learn how to be a Project Manager, System Analyst, Technical Architect, Developer, and Quality Assurance.
At this point, I’m feeling like taking a Computer Science Master’s degree looks interesting wkwk
